Danny Hamsley

Danny is a Professional Forester that spent the majority of his career with Weyerhaeuser Company. Because of a passion of all things wood, Danny developed expert knowledge in Tree Identification and Wood identification. This love of trees and wood led to a woodworking hobby, which led to a sawmill to produce lumber from his Tree Farm for use in building furniture and other woodworking projects.

Having the sawmill allowed him to produce an inventory of hardwood lumber from a variety of hardwood species, many that are not available commercially, or that have truly unique characteristics and beauty. Having more than he could use in his own projects, he offered some of the hardwood lumber for sale to local woodworkers. He soon found that there was a good demand for hardwood lumber in the Middle Georgia area.

In 2011, he decided to focus full time on utilizing the hardwood timber on his Tree Farm in Houston County, Georgia to produce lumber to gain value from the Tree Farm and to offer unique species of hardwood lumber to woodworkers that either could not find these species, or found that they were not affordable.

Wood-Mizer Business Best Winner

In 2012, Danny was recognized by Woodmizer, the manufacturer of his LT15 Bandsaw, as their Business Best Contest Winner in the manual sawmill category.

As a part of his passion for wood, Danny serves as an Administrator for The Forestry Forum, the best place on the Web to discuss trees, wood, and sawmills. He also has interests in Anthropology, with an extensive artifact collection of arrowheads and tools from the Native Americans that once lived in Middle Georgia. He likes to play traditional and bluegrass music, and played Bass in The Flint River Bluegrass Band.
